Rotating Browouts Continue, How Can we Help?

Today, April 14, 2010, rotating brownouts continue in some areas in Luzon.
A tentative 1-hour brownout will occur between 10:00am to 4:00pm due to the insufficient generation power capacity of the power generation suppliers.

This year, rotating brownouts frequently occur in different places in the country. A "boiler tube leak" is said to be the cause of these brownouts according to the operators of Masinloc and the Sual coal fired plant.

Because of these, some said that it is possible that there will be a failure of election.

As a concerned citizen, we can do our own ways to help, let's conserve energy.

It's time to save:

According to legends, vampires suck the blood of their victims. Although vampires' existence are yet to be proven. Now, there can be vampires around your house, so you better watch out! They are called "The energy vampires".

Even though devices are turned off, they act like vampires silently sucking away energy. They continue to draw power when they're on a standby mode. We also call this as "Leaking electricity".

These energy vampires not only waste energy but also harm the environment. They contribute carbon emissions. So, if you're looking for ways to reduce the amount of harmful greenhouse gases being emitted into the atmosphere, don't look far, the solution is closer to home.

What can we do with these energy vampires?

  • Unplug devices when they are not in use. To save time and hassle of unplugging all he components of a compu ter or home entertainment system, group appliances on one surge protector or power strip so that all can be turned off at once.
  • Turn off lights when you leave the room.
  • If you're using incandescent bulbs, replace them with fluorescent lamps or energy-saving lights (ESL). You can save about 50% of your lighting energy bill.
  • If you think that screen savers save electricity in computer monitors, you're wrong! Screen savers are meant to prevent phosphor "burn-in" on the screen. Turn off your computer when not in use. If your computer has a "sleep" mode, enable this feature. With this feature active, the computer will automatically convert to a low-energy mode when not in use, cutting energy usage to less than half.
That's the easiest way on how we can help in conserving energy. Let's save energy!

God bless! :)

Think Green, Make a Difference

Last night, Saturday, April 3, 2010, I was able to watch the replay of Born to be Wild: The Born Project which was aired last December 2009.
It was about their project in keeping, protecting, and saving our nature.

They showed how much food, water, gas, clothing, and other things that each people consume in their entire life.

They also mentioned the possible effects of these in our environment.
The food we eat, the water we drink, the gas we consume, and other necessities might be scarce in a short period of time because of the growing population.
The plastics, styrofoams, and other non-biodegradable things that we use will not easily decomposed.

I became curious and interested in this project because I want to know how to minimize these effects.

Born to be Wild has a facebook account where pledges from different people are posted. Add their account and make your own pledge.

I made my pledge, here it is:

My Pledge:
I promise not to use plastic spoon/fork and styrofoams
especially when eating in fast food chains.
I will bring my own spoon and fork.
I will tell my mother and aunts to use reusable bags instead of plastic bags when having their groceries.
I will also encourage my friends to make their own pledges.

As a student, it is the least that I can contribute, but no matter how big or small it is, I'll still do my promise. I will also do even small things that can help conserve our nature.

Think green! Let's make a difference!
How about you?
What's your pledge?

Owl's Logo

Having your own logo is important in blogging.
It can help you attract readers to visit your blog.
Your logo must be unique and attracting.
It must have the ability to mark in one's mind.

I am trying to work on my blog's logo.
For my logo, I just made an abstract out of a picture of an owl.
I tried to make different logos and choose from them. i came up with this logo:

This will be my temporary logo. It's kinda simple but I'm still working on my permanent logo.
Can you give me an idea? hehe

God bless! :D

Three Words of Strength

Three Words of Strength
by: Friedrich von Schiller

"There are three lessons I would write-
Three words, as with a burning pen,
In tracings of eternal light,
Upon the heart of men.

Have hope! though clouds environ round,
And gladness hides her face in scorn,
Put thou the shadow from thy brow,
No night but hath its morn.

Have faith! where're thy bark is driven-
The calm's disport, the tempest's mirth-
Know this: God rules the hosts of heaven,
The inhabitants of earth.

Have love! not love alone for one,
But man as man thy brother call,
And scatter like the circling sun,
Thy charities on all.

Thus grave these lessons on thy soul,
Hope, faith, and love; and thou shalt find
Strength when life's surges rudest roll,
Light when thou else wert blind."

This quotation from Friedrich von Schiller is one of my favorite poem which we discussed when I was in high school.

It inspired me to never lose hope. Even in the darkest night, there is always a light.

It inspired me to have faith. I never questioned Him for what is happening in my life. I believe that everything has a reason. I know that He is in control.

It inspired me to love. Love not only ourselves, but love our neighbor as much as we love ourselves.

So have hope, faith, and love. Happy Easter and God bless!
